The Schuylkill Ballet Theatre will be performing Tuesday, July 31 in the afternoon on the M & T Stage. They are coming of their most recent and very successful production of “The Sleeping Beauty.” The Theatre will be perform excerpts from this production. The classic fairy tale of Princess Aurora unfolds as a curse is cast upon in her early years of life. It is said that on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger and die. Aurora’s Godmother- The Lilac Fairy intervenes and softens the curse to 100 years of slumber. Only loves first kiss can awaken the “Sleeping Beauty!”
Schuylkill Ballet Theatre is a non-profit organization committed to fostering youth of Schuylkill County in the art of ballet. SBT strives to culturally enhance the lives of the citizens of Schuylkill County and surrounding areas by producing affordable productions of full length ballets, an annual Spring Show and “The Nutcracker.”
Schuylkill Ballet Theatre began in 1979 performing the “Nutcracker” ballet for audiences for the Christmas season. The ballet company is comprised of students from local dance studios who want to further their training in classical ballet. The company’s purpose is to give the serious ballet dancer an opportunity to perform full length ballets in a pre-professional ballet company- the only opportunity of its kind in Schuylkill County.
The Theatre accept dancers beginning at 9 years of age who have had at least 2-3 years of classical ballet training.
