Ethnic diversity is a rich part of Schuylkill County. The ethnic food contest exemplifies the diversity in Schuylkill County. Any ethnic food from the Schuylkill County region may be entered. Categories include main dish, vegetable, or dessert. It is to be brought to the fairgrounds ready to serve on Wednesday, August 3 at 5PM to the PA Preferred Culinary Connection. Awards are 1st-$30, 2nd-$20, and 3rd-$15.
Schuylkill Grown Cooking Contest
This contest is to be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 6PM. The contest is open to both youth and adult with two categories. Adult is to prepare a soup and the youth under 18 is to prepare a quick bread. The recipe must provide a family size serving and be brought to the ready to serve the judges by 6:15Pm. This contest is to showcase Schuylkill Grown Products. This is the year to shin because “We have good things growing,” here in Schuylkill County The recipe must include a minimum of 3 Schuylkill Gown ingredients. First, second and third prize packages will be awarded and the top 5 participants will receive a Schuylkill Grown T-shirt.
Kids Cupcake Challenge
Kids and cooking create a great combination for mayhem! This contest is open to children ages up to 9 years of age and a category of age 9 to 16. Each exhibitor must provide their own ingredients, and cookware to prepare and serve. Recipes must provide 5 servings with no pre-mixing or cooking. Cooking is done on site therefore no baked goods can be made for the contest. This contest will be held Tuesday, August 2 starting at 1:30PM. Awards are 1st-$20, 2nd-$15, 3rd-$10.
Champagne of the coal crackers! As “We have good things growing,” we cannot forget where we come from by celebrating our regional home brewed beverage. This contest is open adults 21 years of age or older. Beverages are brought to the fairgrounds Wednesday, August 3 at 7:30 to the PA Preferred Culinary Connection area. Beverages must be brought to the fairgrounds in a sealed container. There two classes within this contest. They are Boilo, and Apple-pie Boilo. Awards are 1st-$20, 2nd-15, and 3rd-$10.
This year the Schuylkill County Fair is proud to partner with G.D. Yuengling and Son to bring a new and exciting contest to the Schuylkill County Fair. None other than Yuengling Beer Wings Cooking Contest. Nick named Yueng wings the contest will be held on Monday, August 1 at 6PM in the PA Preferred aka fruit and vegetable building. Participants are encouraged to come early to ready themselves for the competition.
As a participants you asked to pre-register for this contest by filling out the “General Entry Form” found on the fair web site at www.schuylkill.com/exhibits/ and mail it to the address on the form. By doing this it secures your space for participation. Participant must be a resident of Schuylkill County and 21 years of age. Recipe must accompany the wings and a label from any Yuengling Beer. Exhibitor must bring the minimum of two dozen wings in an appliance that will keep the wings warm or cold. Wings will be served and presented to judges for judging. Participants are encouraged to distribute the balance of the wings to fairgoers. There are two classes for this contest. One contest for the average wing connoisseur and another one for the professional connoisseur representing a local bar or restaurant. First, second and third prizes will be awarded by D.G. Yuengling & Son. Come and present you best wing recipe using a Yuengling beer and find out who the judges choose as the best wings to be found in Schuylkill County.
Baking with Brew
“We have good things growing” and one of the many good things growing in here is Schuylkill County is Yuengling beer. G. D. Yuengling & Son and the Schuylkill County has partnered together to bring a new contest to the 2016 Schuylkill County Fair. The new cooking contest is Baking with Brew. As the name of the contest conveys it is a baked product using Yuengling beer in the recipe. This contest will go off on Tuesday, August 2 at 6PM in the PA Preferred Culinary Connection area of the fairgrounds. Better known as inside the fruit and vegetable building.
This contest is open any and all interested parties, but is limited to one entry per person. Entry must be a baked good that will serve a minimum of six people. The baked good must contain a minimum of 4 oz. of any Yuengling Beer in the recipe. Recipe must accompany the baked good and a label from any Yuengling Beer. The baked good is to be brought and kept warm or cold for serving. Exhibitor must bring their own serving utensils. Exhibitor must bring the baked good in an appliance that will keep the baked good warm or cold and are asked to arrive early to prepare their area by 5:30. Exhibitors must be 21 years or older to compete. Entries will be judged on appearance, originality and flavor. After judging is completed exhibitors are encouraged to share their baking with brew good with fair goers. Please pre-registration using the General Entry Form at www.schuylkillfair.com/exhibits/ is a must to secure your participation. Prizes for first, second and third will be awarded by D. G. Yuengling and Son.
