Food – it’s the reason that some people go to the Schuylkill County Fair, which runs this year from July 27 thru August 1. It’s been that way since the first funnel cake was poured into the hot fat decades ago. It’s a tradition for families to scope out the food vendors on the midway and find out what new item has been battered and deep-fried. When it comes to food, the Schuylkill County Fair doesn’t disappoint.
The midway will be jammed (no pun intended) with old favorites like French fries and corn dogs hot out of the fryers. Fair goers who want to try something unique can head to Uncle Paul’s Stuffed Pretzels. Look for the big orange truck and you can’t miss them! Owners Katie and Mike Myer have the perfect walking meal. The homemade pretzel dough is stuffed with a variety of fresh ingredients that create a meal in one hand. Some of the varieties of stuffed pretzels that Uncle Paul’s is famous for include: cheese steak, ham and cheese, chicken bacon ranch, and cinnamon apple. You can carry the meal in one hand and sip one of Uncle Paul’s frozen lemonades from the other. If you didn’t have a chance to try one of Uncle Paul’s Stuffed Pretzels last year, then be sure to try one this year. You will not be disappointed!
If you are into the “grab and go” meal, then you also have to try Geakers Taco’s. Geakers is not only known for their tacos and taco dogs, but for their soups and shakes. Geakers was voted Readers’ Choice by the Morning Call in 2014 for the eleventh year in a row. If you want to learn more about what Geakers has to offer, including their family sized value meals, you can visit them at www.geakers.com, where the atmosphere is driven by the concept of, “One love, one heart….so let’s go to Geakers to feel alright!”
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Young and old alike know what’s in that red dairy barn with the blue silo that has been on the midway for the last 32 years. With us since the inaugural Fair, the Dairy Promotion of Schuylkill County will again be bringing to you the sweet, creamy texture of their signature vanilla and chocolate ice cream. There’s nothing like cold, refreshing ice cream on a hot summer day, whether you prefer a cone, cup, or shake. Want a little extra treat? Top your bowl of ice cream with fresh sliced peaches that are grown, harvested, peeled and prepared right here in Schuylkill County by a group of men and women dedicated to the dairy industry. Nothing is sweeter and more refreshing than a peach sundae with chocolate ice cream at the fair!
Other popular favorites will be abundant as well, including cheeseburgers, pulled pork, beef sandwiches, ice cream, fries, pizza and plenty of Guers to wash it all down.
Fair food is the tastiest tradition there is. Come join us at the Schuylkill County Fair, July 27-August 1, and scope out the food vendors on the midway.
